What, how & why

What we do

In-short everything to ensure that any project makes it through from conception to implementation.

Here are just a few examples of the type of work our field ecologists can tackle.

  • protected species surveys (bats, badgers, great crested newts, dormouse, water voles, barn owls)
  • higher and lower plants
  • invertebrates
  • tree surveys (including tree climbing)
  • breeding and wintering birds
  • vantage point surveys
  • aquatic and marine surveys

Some surveys are highly specialised and if we can’t do it we know a man (or woman) who can. Find our general guidelines for developers on our blog pages here.

After the data gathering, survey information requires interpretation. Our consultants are highly experienced at assessing data and presenting it in a clear and concise manner.

Whether for a formal Environmental Impact Assessment, Appropriate Assessment, Ecological Appraisal, Public Exhibition or Public Inquiry we know what is required and how to go about it.

We don’t just work with wildlife. People skills are key to the success of any project whether it is working with statutory bodies such as Natural England, planning authorities or site engineers we have the experience and expertise to achieve the required outcome.

To be at the forefront of our industry and yours, we have to address public opinion and government policy, be scientific and creative, review and assimilate vast amounts of data and provide robust and often challenging advice.

How we do it

There’s lots of stuff about how we work that you’d expect to find, quality control, health and safety, equal opportunities policies. What’s important is how we are different.

Our natural curiosity as individuals leads us to develop new ideas, introducing clients to new ways of thinking and doing, alongside the tried and tested methods.

Innovation and commercial awareness are at the heart of what we do. You will find us (sometimes painfully) honest, but we expect the same from you. We are non-judgemental and approachable, you CAN ask us the silly questions.

Our pricing structure is geared to the needs of the client not the cost of the consultant. You will always be charged for the complexity of work not the seniority of the consultant.

The big why question

To be frank – it’s the law! 90% of the ecology work we do is governed by legislation and policy. We take a close interest in ecological law and we make sure that you keep on the right side of it.

But that’s not the whole story. Most of our clients are looking for value added to their projects. By incorporating sound ecological and sustainability principles into their approach they know that they have an edge on their competitors.

Ask us more or ask them.
