After 7 days on site, I thought it was time to give you an insight into what has happened so far.
Legacy Habitat have put in the fence along the phase1 receptor site (although due to rubble could not follow the embankment to the north). We then carried out a destructive search of all the rubble/debris left at the north of the site. During this phase we moved 3 slow worms from the line of the fence and two more from under rubble piles. This was until Monday this week, when we moved some tarpaulin type material to find 23 underneath! Three more were found later that day.
Legacy have completed a new small pond to the north of the site and we have created new habitat for reptiles within the receptor site, such as scrapes, wood piles and rubble piles covered with turf. The spoil from the pond has been left immediately to the north which has created a south-facing bank.
Today I completed my first trapping visit which was successful, even catching a lizard (one more got away).
So to summarise what has been translocated so far:
49 slow worms
1 common lizard
several toads/smooth newts
sighting of a grass snake
one female and two juvenile lizards.
